All About Rabbit Show Reports
The rabbit show is over, everyone has gone home and the cleanup crew is finished. The work is not yet finished......now the club secretary has to generate many exhibitor reports for all the people who entered rabbits, and show reports for all the rabbit clubs involved in tracking sweepstakes.
There are several different kinds of reports generated - you, as the exhibitor, will only get one of these reports, The Exhibitor Show Report:
Exhibitor Reports-Results Based On Each Exhibitor
This is the type of report that each exhibitor will
get -
it will list all the rabbits one exhibitor showed and where each rabbit
placed, along with how many points each rabbit earned. It will also show
any 'specials' any of your rabbits won - such as Best of Breed, Best of
Variety, etc.....
At the bottom of the form, all your points earned will be totaled up and any 'legs' your rabbit(s) won will be enclosed with your report.
When Will My Exhibitor Report Be Ready?
Show reports are very time consuming to do - the secretary uses the entry forms and remark cards from the show to form each breed, each class, then each rabbit's placement in the class. It is really a lot of work for these show secretaries: volunteers who have other full-time jobs and families! Clubs are allowed 30 days to finish their show reports - but you will not always get yours within this time period...read on....
How Do I Get My Exhibitor Report?
The club will bring all the exhibitor reports to the next few shows in your state or area, and set them near an entry/show administration table. Ideally, exhibitors will be there from that last show and take their reports so the club doesn't have to mail them. Any reports not picked up will eventually be mailed if the exhibitor wrote a legible address on their entry form!
Breed Reports-Results Based on Each Breed
The club also compiles reports on each sanctioned breed shown. This report lists the rabbits' placements in each class. The show secretary will send a breed report to each national breed specialty club and if you are a paid member, your rabbits' placements and winnings will be used in your breed sweepstakes. You won't get a copy of this report - it will be sent directly to the breed clubs.
Overall Show Reports-Points For Your State Sweeps
The show secretary will also make reports to
send to clubs such as your state rabbit breeder's club. Again, if you
are a paid member of your state club, your results from this report will
count towards your points sweepstakes. You will not get a copy of this
type of report either.
My Exhibitor Report Has a Mistake! - What Do I Do?
Maybe the placement of one of your rabbits is wrong, or someone forgot to mark that your rabbit won Best of Variety or some other special...... although these mistakes are not very common, most beginning exhibitors freak out over them!
Calm down....it
can be fixed. Don't make the mistake of posting all
over the internet discussion lists that your report is wrong and you are
trying to find the person to fix it - all this usually does is embarrass a
hard working volunteer who tried to help put on a rabbit show for you to
attend - plus there can be a variety of reasons for mistakes and they are
not always the show secretary's fault; remark cards are notoriously hard to
read - placements can be recorded wrong or duplicated at the showtable,
often due to carbon copy overlap of the remark cards, etc, etc.
Call or write to the club secretary, who should be listed on your show report. Explain the problem in detail and ask for a correction. If you mail your request, include copies of your show report and your remark card for the rabbit in question.
If you can't find the show secretary information on your show report, then refer to your original show catalog. If no luck there, you can always find the show secretary's info at the ARBA website or through your state rabbit breeder's association.
Give the secretary a few weeks to make the correction, as often times he or she will have to correct a whole class and all the other related reports. Follow up with reminders if you need to, and you may want to follow up with your breed clubs or other clubs you are in, to make sure they've received a corrected report too.
What Do I Do With All My Show Reports?
Keep them - at least through the sweepstakes year you are involved in - that way you can check to make sure you are getting all the points you've earned! They are also fun to look back on......
We keep each year's show reports in a three-ring binder, along with each show's catalog for handy reference.
