Common Rabbit Conformation Faults-DEPTH

Depth of a rabbit is a term used to describe a measurement from the topline of the body down to the lower part of the body.  A rabbit 'lacking depth' appears flatter to the ground than one with good depth.

Make sure your rabbit is posed properly before you evaluate his or her depth- we have pages on How to Pose Holland Lops and How to Pose Polish Rabbits, or refer to your Standard of Perfection if you've got another breed!

Below, I am using French Lops to demonstrate the depth of a rabbit because this breed makes it easy to see the differences in depth so easily. As you can see from the pictures - rabbit #1 is lacking depth and rabbit #2 has excellent depth.

If rabbit #1 had his head down further, he would look like he had a bit more depth, but he still would not have enough depth to matter on the show table!
