Petal (YRA H072) won
BOB! This was a fantastic start to our year but our greatest
accomplishment was with Kelly's group of French Lops - Her 3 SJBs placed 1-2-3 in their large class, her 2
BJDs placed
1/11 and 3/11 in their class, and her new 6/8 broken doe, Sugar (BB03), won
her class, earning her third ARBA leg, she is now a grand champion (pending)! Kelly was
awarded the Best Breed Display for her youth French Lops!

No legs at this show, but high placings so we were
happy! We did not bring Max along to show because he was still a
junior and he needed a sr. leg towards his GC. Misty Hills did a wonderful job with their first show - nice
large facilities, very organized! |

Our first show in 2005! We did not show
Hollands - all our does are either bred or with litters and our juniors
are too little yet! Kelly brought her French Lop juniors and 6/8s.
Thunder, who is only 6 months old was bumped into Sr class because of his
weight and placed 4/14!!! That was cool! Blizzard (Ivan)
placed 2nd in his large class, Lightening won his smaller class (and was
also sold at the show) and her other juniors did well - good day! It
was good to see rabbit folks again!

A
spur-of-the-moment decision to go to this show! Quite a drive for
us, but we sure had fun! Kelly had to show her French Lops in open
as youth was not sanctioned - and she did well- no legs, but a few higher
placings and we got excellent opinions on our juniors from judge Lynn
Eden! Jody still did not have any juniors old enough to show so we
quickly grabbed Petal, Doubles and Eric's buck to show - Both the bucks
took 2nd and Petal placed 3d (oooo we've let her get a little too chunky
this winter!) Forgot my camera so no pictures. Good day, good
experience! Beautiful weather- warm and sunny!

Well we made it through the BIG ONE! A good day for
both kids- Kelly's broken sr. buck Ivan took BOS, LaReau's Max won his
huge class (1/17) then went on to win BOSV, and LaReau's Thunder placed
right behind Max (2/17)! During the last year we've seen a
tremendous jump in the number of French Lops shown in youth - we now have
a lot of keen competition at each show!
Jody did well for the few Hollands he showed.
Petal won her large sr. doe class - which amazed me because she is really
too chunky still, Doubles placed 12 out of 27, Dexter placed 3d out of 15
(we never usually show Dexter and probably won't again- he's such a sweet
older guy who came out of retirement for one show!) What a super
weekend- lot of fun at this show! Read more about it in our Rabbitry
Journal too!

Tri-County was very exciting for LaReau Lops!
On Saturday, Kelly's French Lop buck, Thunder, won his large sr.
buck class then went on to win BOS! Thunder is a very young senior,
just turning 8 months old last week! LaReau's Comet,
Thunder's brother, also won his large senior broken buck class, again, a
very young senior! Her other French Lops did very well, but these
two wins are definitely the highlight of our weekend! Showing the
French Lops on Sunday wasn't as successful but we had some nice placings
again! We did not show Max or Sunny because they are sold and
waiting to go to their new home in Minnesota! Jody, again, only brought a couple Hollands to show - on
Saturday, Petal won her large senior doe class then went on to win BOSV,
then she did the same thing on Sunday! YRA Doubles, placed second in
his huge class on Sunday - poor Doubles....he is either the first off the
table or he places 2nd - if he could earn legs for 2nd, he'd have been a
grand champion several times! Beautiful weather and a nice show!

What an ordeal - first, we wake at 2:30 am (to
get to this show on time) to find that our two dogs had ripped up a large
bag a trash we forgot to take out the night before - trash, coffee grounds and wrappers all
over the kitchen and livingroom! Hmmmm that should have been a clue
to just go back to
bed. This was also the most expensive show I have been to - I
thought the speed limit on Hwy 13 was 65, and so of course at 5 a.m. I am
traveling at about 70-72. I was mistaken - the speed limit is 55 so
I earned a nice $160 ticket on the way to the show (grrrr)
Kelly did
well with the French Lops - LaReau's Thunder won his class and BOV, and
Ivan won BOS. We sold Frosty at this show. YRA Doubles took
2nd again..... and again, our HL juniors too young to show we didn't bring
a lot of Hollands.
We had a lot
of fun despite our troubles......and it was nice to see LaReau's
Lightening, at this show (Thunder's brother we sold in February), place
well, right behind Thunder!

What a nice surprise it was when we arrived at
this show - last year it was held in a much smaller building in the same
fairground - but this year it was in the 'cattle barn' which was huge!
Kelly's French Lops did great - Thunder took 2nd in his huge senior
buck class and her opal doe, Raven, won Best Opposite Sex
under Judge Bob Koch! Raven, out of Kelly's first 'colored' litter,
just turned 6 months old last week. Kelly sold all the dilutes from
that litter except for her and her brother Roy - each of these rabbits has
a nice solid body and a lot of promise!
Jody brought
2 very young juniors who placed mid-class. |

This was a long drive for us- weather was absolutely
nasty - cold, windy, raining. Kelly finally got to show her cavies,
which did well - Victor took reserve. We had a very interesting
conversation with Leroy Prahman, the judge - and learned a lot!
Petal won BOS - but our win was overshadowed by Petal dying a day after we
arrived home from this show. |

Our Holland Lop jr. buck, Domino, won his class and
first leg. Not much else to report - we are still really bummed out
from losing Petal......... |
|
All in all, we had a great show year, especially
Kelly with her French Lops - she is up there in the national points with
her home-bred French Lops! We didn't get to all the shows we had
wanted to go to - Jody and his older brother Tony, are on competitive
soccer teams and they both had many tournaments this year - so we had to
miss several show dates!
We lost steam
towards the end of the show year when we lost Petal to an unknown illness
- her loss was overwhelming for us and it was difficult to even bring any
Hollands to Spring Fling to show, much less gather up the ambition to
attend any other shows.
We hope this
next show season will bring us some better memories.... |
