Holland Lop Foundation Stock History
Our Yellow River Acres/Wardlow Line of Holland Lops:
We've purchased the majority of our Holland stock from Eric Henning, of
Yellow River Acres Rabbitry in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Eric began breeding
and showing back in the mid-90's.
YRA Daisy, was
born of the third litter at YRA as a result of linebreeding Badgerland stock.. Daisy had a beautiful topline and
displayed a natural 'sit-up' pose, which helped her earn the title of BOB
at the 1997 ARBA
Convention held in Madison, Wisconsin. Daisy
went on to
become the 3d Top
Lop for the 97-98 points year, amongst other honors. Eric's search for a
suitable buck to pair with Daisy, led him to Jamie Wardlow, the leading Holland
breeder of the 90's, and the purchase of
CJ's Triples (CJ's Cosmo x CJ's W501).
This cross resulted in one of Eric's best producing does,
YRA Dandi,
who went on to produce YRA
Blackjack,
YRA Dexter,
and many other top-notch YRA Hollands.
The YRA breeding program soon concentrated on three key Wardlow bucks;
CJ's Triples,
CJ's DJ (CJ's Cody x CJ's Ivy), and
CJ's Collin (CJ's Cosmo x CJ's Olina).
YRA's consistent linebreeding using these 3 classic Wardlow bucks,
along with the infusion of YRA
Daisy's superb qualities has
resulted in an exceptional line of YRA Holland Lops, while still preserving
the strong Wardlow qualities. Over the past 8 years, YRA has produced many
excellent Holland Lops, a few; YRA Dude
(CJ's Collin x YRA Mazie) went on to become a top-producing buck and
YRA Blackjack sired many beautiful show
Hollands, including our
Petal (YRA H072).

In 2003, we met with Eric Henning and purchased a pretty junior doe,
YRA H072 (YRA Blackjack x YRA Dudette). Petal
has since been granded and has 3 BOBs to her credit along with several other
class and BOS wins. We were so impressed by this doe's unique
and natural
pose (I'm sure she inherited this from YRA Daisy!) that we returned to buy a
short little buck,
YRA Doubles (CJ's Triples
x YRA Sable) and a few breeding does.
In late 2004, Eric Henning decided to pursue his horse-training career
full-time, and put his entire herd of Hollands up for sale.. We were
delighted to be able to purchase some of his exceptional bucks;
YRA Dexter,
YRA
Jack,
YRA Muggins, along with several of his line-bred does. It is now our
intention to continue line-breeding these fine animals,
and preserve what Jamie Wardlow began and Eric Henning enhanced. After all, like Eric told me
"there is no point in reinventing the wheel"
Eric
Henning and Yellow River Acres Rabbitry has been instrumental in helping us get
our Holland Lop program off the ground. We deeply appreciate all his
advice, honest representation of his sale animals, and the excellent stock
he provided
for
our foundation!
The information and pictures in this article
were printed with Eric Henning's permission.
As of Fall 2005, Eric no longer has any
rabbits.
Other Holland Lines we have:
In 2003 we purchased our first Holland Lop, a little black buck,
Reilly's GMT1, from Reilly's
rabbits. This funny little guy completely bewitched us and soon we knew Hollands were going to be one of our breeds! "Wire" has a very
colorful background; Breezy Pines, Campo's, Andreson's, amongst others.
During summer of 2004, when we were down at Bonne Bunnys Rabbitry, looking at a
French Lop doe Geoff had for sale, we couldn't help but notice all the different
colored Hollands he also had. Geoff fascinated us with a crash-course in
some of his color genetics and we ended up purchasing a
frosty doe and a cute
blue buck, linebred Bonne Bunnys lines, Lotsa Lops lines with a sprinkling of
Camelot and Wardlow back further. Who knows....between these 2 rabbits and
our little black Reilly buck (he carries a dilute gene) we may get a small color
line going and see where it takes us?
