Remark Cards are small, 2-piece carbonless forms that
are used right at the judging table to record where your rabbit places in it's class.
Each rabbit you show will need a remark card turned in along with the Show
Entry form. I've heard that rabbit shows held in some of the
southern US states do not use remark cards-if you are in a southern state,
call your show secretary for more info.
You will only fill out the top
of each remark card (down to the solid line under Buck, Doe, etc), leaving
the bottom half blank-for the 'writer' to record the judge's comments and
placement of your rabbit.
It helps the show committee
keep your remark cards sorted correctly if
you will mark a prominent Y (for youth) or O (for open) up
in the right hand upper corner of each card.
Remark cards are available
from most rabbit supply vendors for usually under $5 for 50-100 remark
cards and some clubs provide their exhibitors with remark cards, - you can
ask about this when you enter the show
It is very important that the
EAR NUMBER you record on the remark card is easily readable and matches
the ear number of the rabbit you are showing!
As your rabbit is judged, the
'writer' will record where your rabbit placed, how many rabbits were in
that same class, and how many different exhibitors there were. The
writer will also try to record the judge's comments about your rabbit and
mark off or write the comments on the lower half of the form. Don't
expect every category to be filled in though.....some judges simply go too
fast for the writer to catch every comment, that is why you should listen
closely for comments about your rabbit, while judging is going on.
After your rabbit is judged,
the writer will tear off the copy and leave it right at the show table for
you to pick up - don't forget to pick these up as the show will not save
your copies for you! The show secretary will keep the original to
record each rabbits' placement and make the show reports.
It is important to look at
your remark card right after your class to make sure the writer recorded
the correct placement of your rabbit and circled any other awards your
rabbit won (see below). Rarely, a writer will not hear the placement
correctly or there may be some confusion with ear numbers resulting in a
wrongly-recorded placement. Make sure any mistakes are corrected by
the writer before you leave the show table - and it is very
important that the writer correct any mistakes on the remark card copy
that goes to the show secretary!
Some of the terms the writer
may circle or mark on your remark card:
BOB - circled if your rabbit
won Best of Breed
BOS - circled if your rabbit
won Best Opposite Sex of Breed
BOG - circled if your rabbit
won Best of Group for breeds shown in color groups
BOSG - circled if your rabbit
won Best Opposite Sex of Group
BOV - circled if your rabbit
won Best of Variety for breeds shown in varieties
BOSV - circled if your rabbit
won Best Opposite Sex of Variety
The terms 'variety' and
'group' are often interchangeable terms. Some breeds are also
awarded Best Senior and Best Junior of breed.
