How To Show Your Rabbit

Chapter 4 - What To Bring To A Rabbit Show

Essentials You Need For A Rabbit Show- look for these few items ahead of time!

-A 'carrier' for each rabbit you are going to show.  Carriers are small wire cages that open on the top, and have an attached pan to catch droppings.  Each rabbit is transported to the show in one, and usually remains in the carrier throughout the day. An early morning commute to the rabbit show often means a nice long nap while waiting for your class! They range in price from $10 on up to $40 and are available from many rabbit supply vendors.  We like to buy fairly large carriers for our rabbits so they are a bit more comfortable throughout show day, but some breeders like using the smaller ones to keep the rabbit from being tossed around while driving.

If you think you might be buying a rabbit at the show, bring an extra carrier or two along!

-Food and water cups for each carrier.  Rabbit vendors sell small, plastic food and water cups you can attach to the inside of each carrier while at the show.  Make sure your rabbit's head can fit into the size of cups you buy!  These are fairly inexpensive, usually under $1 each.

-wheel cart to transport your carrier from your vehicle to the showroom.  Of course, it is not necessary to have one of these, but carts sure make an easier job out of hauling everything in to a rabbit show!  Many styles are available - we own both the large 'wagon' type cart with big air-filled tires, and the low-to-the ground cart, commonly available at Farm supply stores.

What Else Do I Bring To A Rabbit Show?

We have a printable list of items that we normally take to one-day or double rabbit shows - feel free to print and use it for yourself.  You will need Adobe Reader to open this document - if you don't already have Adobe Reader on your computer, go ahead and download it free from here.  This is a small, easy to install and handy program used for reading all pdf documents.

Some people also like to keep an overnight bag of personal items in their vehicle, just in case you are stranded or end up spending the night in a motel.
